Originally from Mexico City, Pedro Zapata joined Oceana on November 10, 2015 as a Senior Advisor on the Science and Strategy team. He has a background in political science, public policy and international development, and holds a Master’s degree in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics. Prior to joining Oceana, he worked at the World Wildlife Fund, managing part of their newly developed portfolio of Global Environment Facility projects, including oceans-related projects in the Mesoamerican Reef and the Coral Triangle. Before moving to the US, he spent several years in the spectacular port of La Paz, Baja California Sur, where he led the Mexico Oceans Program for the Environmental Defense Fund, working to improve fisheries management across the Gulf of California. He is delighted to join Oceana, and is enthusiastic about using his campaign strategy skills to support Oceana’s growing network of international offices.
