Seafood Fraud and Illegal Fishing Campaign Intern

General Summary

Oceana seeks a Seafood Fraud and Illegal Fishing Campaign Intern to work closely with the seafood fraud team in support of its policy science and outreach work. The intern will assist on a variety of projects including writing reports and factsheets, researching issues relevant to the campaign, assisting with data analysis and organizing support for traceability and increased transparency of fishing activities. There may be opportunities to accompany staff to Congressional and Administration meetings, attend hearings, and network with other ocean advocates. We are currently accepting applications for an immediate start date.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Write reports and factsheets
  • Research issues relevant to the campaign
  • Assist with data analysis
  • Draft communications to external audiences
  • Track legislation relevant to the campaign

Job Requirements

Education and work experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Skills and knowledge:

  • Excellent research, writing, and phone/email communication skills
  • Great computer skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team effort
  • Energy, enthusiasm, and a strong desire to learn
  • Ability to work independently on discrete projects
  • Knowledge and interest in environmental and ocean issues
  • Strong attention to detail
