The Plastics Campaign Associate works as part of Oceana’s U.S. Plastics Campaign to protect the oceans from plastic pollution by passing policies to reduce the production and use of unnecessary single-use plastic. The associate will research the plastics problem and solutions; develop campaign materials, including fact sheets and grassroots activist tools; analyze policy proposals; and engage in outreach to key constituencies and decision makers. The associate also will organize events and track various aspects of the plastics problem and our campaign work to stop plastic pollution.

A successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal, written, and communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information into simple, publicly digestible material. In addition, the candidate should have experience planning and executing projects, taking initiative, and effectively juggling multiple tasks at once.

Founded in 2001, Oceana is the world’s largest ocean advocacy organization focused solely on restoring the resilience, diversity, and abundance of marine ecosystems to ensure that our oceans are a significant source of wild-caught fish that can help feed the world.

We achieve measurable change by conducting specific, science-based campaigns with fixed deadlines and articulated goals. Our campaigns focus on getting policy change in countries that, govern nearly one-third of the world’s wild-caught fish, including Belize, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, the United States, Canada and the 27 countries in the European Union.

Oceana’s US offices have operated on a hybrid schedule and staff have been required to work from their assigned office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. With agreement between the employee and their supervisor, the employee may work from home Monday and Friday. Oceana continually evaluates safety protocols and updates our practices on an ongoing basis based on the CDC community level color coding system of green, yellow and red.
