We achieve measurable change by conducting specific, science-based campaigns with fixed deadlines and articulated goals. Our campaigns extend to countries that, combined, govern nearly one-third of the world’s wild-caught fish, including Belize, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, the United States, the UK, and the countries in the European Union.

We are currently seeking an experienced Staff Accountant who, as part of the Finance and Accounting Department, will be primarily responsible for the entire accounts payable cycle as well as performing treasury functions. This individual will manage a varied and high-volume workload and will work closely with interdepartmental staff to manage payables in order to ensure accurate and timely payments. They will also assist with maintaining Oceana’s general ledger, the audit, tax preparation, and other relevant ad-hoc tasks.

Candidates for this position must thrive in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing needs. They must be able to function as both a strategic and hands-on lead. Have the ability to maneuver effectively between strategic high-level executive advisory hands-on management.  Have an excellent track record in financial and risk management and able to rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Experience creating a culture of fiscal management and responsibility at all levels of an organization. A leader who ensures a productive working environment and confidently leads, coaches, and motivates employees to meet organizational goals.

Strong candidates will have an graduate degree in Finance and Accounting as well as CPA. At least  Ten plus (10+) years of progressive financial management experience  and Seven plus (7+) years of supervisory experience. Additionally, external Auditor experience is required. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is based in Washington, DC.

The salary range for this position is $170,000-200,000 annually.

Oceana’s US offices have operated on a hybrid schedule and staff have been required to work from their assigned office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. With agreement between the employee and their supervisor, the employee may work from home Monday and Friday.
