Program Manager, Sailors for the Sea

Do you want to help the sailing community to take action to save the world’s oceans? Are you passionate about working to help address climate change, reduce plastics and to protect whales and other sea animals?

Oceana is seeking a Program Manager to work as a member of the Sailors for the Sea team to position Sailors for the Sea as a leader in sustainability and ocean advocacy in the sailing sector. The Program Manager will oversee Sailors for the Sea’s Clean Regattas and Skippers volunteer programs to engage and activate sailors and boaters towards restoring ocean health. The Program Manager will work on many different projects or needs on any given day and should be comfortable meeting tight deadlines and managing requests from diverse stakeholders. Having experience working with the sailing and boating community is a plus.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong analytic and creative ability as well as effective communication and people skills. This candidate should be capable of quickly adapting to new situations, taking on challenges of unfamiliar tasks and drawing on past successes and failures to solve current problems.

Founded in 2001, Oceana is the world’s largest nonprofit organization focused solely on restoring the resilience and abundance of the ocean. Sailors for the Sea joined forces with Oceana in 2018 to create a global network of active, engaged ocean champions within the sailing and boating community who are taking action to save our oceans. We achieve measurable change by conducting specific, science-based campaigns with fixed deadlines and articulated goals. Our campaigns focus on getting policy changes in countries that, govern nearly one-third of the world’s wild-caught fish, including Belize, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, the United States, Canada and the 27 countries in the European Union.

This is a full-time position based in Newport, RI. We are currently in a work from home status and plan for the office to re-open on a hybrid schedule this spring with three designated days a week in the office and two designated days allowing work from home.
