Caitie Reza joined Oceana in August 2026 as Communications Manager for the U.S. Plastics Campaign.
Before joining Oceana, Caitie spent four years leading communications and development for Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire, a coral restoration nonprofit in the Dutch Caribbean. She led their communications strategy across media, digital platforms, fundraising, and public outreach. During her time there, she translated restoration science into compelling stories and campaigns to mobilize local communities, policymakers, journalists, funders, and partners to take action for the island’s coral reefs. Caitie began her career in conservation biology, working in field research roles from Alaska to Guam before moving into communications. Her scientific background continues to shape her approach to storytelling, particularly her belief that effective conservation depends not only on good science and policy, but on helping people understand why environmental issues matter and how they can be part of the solution. Caitie holds a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Michigan State University and a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Management from the University of California, Santa Barbara’s Bren School, where she focused on strategic communications and marine resource management. Growing up in Southern California, Caitie spent many hours driving along the coast, watching seabirds and wondering about the marine life beneath the waves. Outside of work, she loves birding, running, diving, and exploring places she’s never been to.
