Claire Huang

Engagement and Outreach Manager

Oceana Staff

Claire joins Oceana as the Engagement and Outreach Manager on the Science & Strategy Team with an interdisciplinary background in conservation research, policy, and science communications.

Trained as a marine ecologist, Claire has worked in non-profit, academic, and federal government agencies on a range of environmental issues — from advocating for climate-adaptive agriculture, to restoring migratory fish habitat, to drafting coastal management bills for Congress. Most recently, she served as a policy analyst and endangered species biologist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Claire is especially passionate about telling stories with data and leveraging partnerships to bridge science, policy-making, and communities. She holds a Masters in Environmental Management from Duke University and a B.A. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Columbia University. Originally from Calgary, Canada, she now calls Washington D.C. home. Outside of work, you can find Claire running and biking around the city, rocking out on guitar and drums with her bands, and making wildlife-inspired art.
