Senior Manager, US HR Business Partner - Oceana USA

Senior Manager, US HR Business Partner

Are you an HR professional with broad HR generalist experience? Do you want to work for an organization that is dedicated to changing the globe for the better?

Oceana is making great progress in our mission of protecting and restoring the abundance of the oceans. We are looking for an experienced HR Business Partner (HRBP) to join our dedicated team working to protect our oceans, reduce the impact of climate change, feed a growing global population, and support the livelihood of fishers, their families, and their communities.

Oceana is the world’s largest nonprofit focused solely on restoring the resilience and abundance of the ocean. We achieve change by conducting specific, science-based campaigns with clear deadlines and measurable goals. Our focus is creating important policy changes in the countries that govern nearly one third of the world’s wild caught fish: Belize, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, the USA, Canada, the UK and 27 EU countries.

The HRBP will work closely with leaders to implement Oceana’s HR programs, primarily in the US. This generalist role will have a variety of responsibilities including recruiting, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, compensation, global benefits, and on and offboarding. You will continuously build capacity of leadership, managers, and staff on HR best practices. The position reports to the Sr Director and is hybrid in our DC headquarters office.

We are seeking a candidate with a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8+ years progressive HR generalist experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate must have the ability to demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency, inclusivity, and the proven ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds. Experience with project management, policy implementation and training will ensure success in this role.

In addition, the candidate will need to be highly proficient in both spoken and written English.

It is a plus if the candidate has a PHR certification (or willingness to become certified) and knowledge of employment law and best practices in the countries where Oceana works.

Oceana values a diverse workforce and welcomes people different from each other in many ways, including characteristics such as race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, and national origin. Oceana considers all qualified candidates and seeks to recruit from a diverse candidate pool.
