WASHINGTON — Today, the Biden-Harris administration published a plan for the “America the Beautiful Campaign,” which outlines principles to drive the 30×30 initiative to conserve at least 30% of U.S. lands, freshwater, and ocean areas by 2030. The plan was detailed in a report to the National Climate Task Force from the Commerce, Interior and Agriculture Departments, in collaboration with the Council on Environmental Quality.
Oceana’s deputy vice president of U.S. campaigns, Beth Lowell, released this statement following today’s announcement:
“Oceana applauds President Biden for prioritizing the 30×30 initiative, and taking steps to fight climate change, protect our oceans, and conserve our environment. The report released today will be the foundation to make positive and lasting change for our land, our oceans, and our country. We welcome and look forward to engagement and collaboration with the administration to implement science-based solutions to manage and preserve our oceans. It’s time for the United States to safeguard our oceans and natural environment, and the Biden-Harris administration can get it done.”
