Established in 1994 by American Oceans Campaign (which merged with Oceana in 2002), the event honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions through their personal commitment to the cause of protecting our oceans.
At this year’s annual Partners Award Gala in October 2013, Oceana honored Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and HBO CEO Richard Plepler for their work to protect and conserve the oceans.
Held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, the gala raised more than $800,000 for Oceana. Guests were treated to remarks by Clinton and Plelper, plus a surprise performance by award-winning signers Carly Simon and Natasha Bedingfield. Oceana rolled out the “blue carpet” for the gala, welcoming celebrities like Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, Diane Lane, Jane Fonda, Kate Walsh, Cobie Smulders, Seth MacFarlane, Angela Kinsey, and others.
Previous PAG honorees include Stephen McPherson, President of ABC Entertainment; Annett Wolf, President of Wolf-Kasteler & Associates; ocean activists Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye Smith; Academy Award-winning American film and television producer Brian Grazer; Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard; former President Bill Clinton; entrepreneur and environmentalist Ted Turner; actor and activist Ted Danson (founder of American Oceans Campaign); Actor Christopher Reeve; Musicians Don Henley and Sting; entertainment industry leaders/environmental stewards Alan Horn, Michael King; Sir John Browne of British Petroleum; Dian Ogilvie and Toyota/Lexus; and Hollywood agent Rick Nicita.
