Joseph Gordon is the Climate & Energy Campaign Director for Oceana, leading the organization’s U.S. efforts to prevent offshore drilling and implement policy initiatives championing Oceana’s climate and energy issues.  

Joseph has helped lead successful coalition efforts to protect fish, wildlife, and habitat in the United States for more than two decades. Most recently, he worked as a consultant at the National Ocean Protection Coalition, supporting efforts to advance marine protected areas across the country. Prior to his time at NOPC, Joseph spent more than 15 years at the Pew Charitable Trusts, where he managed and directed successful campaigns to strengthen U.S. fisheries law and regulations, conserve forage fish through ecosystem-based management, secure the three largest conservation areas in the U.S. Atlantic, and build inclusive coastal conservation partnerships for foundational habitats like oysters, seagrass, and salt marsh. 

Joseph has been featured in media outlets across the country, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Scientific American, PBS NewsHour, Associated Press, Fox Business, and National Public Radio 

Joseph’s past work experience included working for the National Environmental Trust, American Rivers, Sierra Club, Save America’s Forests, and the Public Interest Research Groups.  

He received an MA in Public Policy from the University of Maryland and a BA from Oberlin College. Outside of work, Joseph loves to draw, hunt for fossils, whale watch, read science fiction, and explore parks, refuges, and beaches – places he hopes to help keep thriving through his work. He lives with his wife, Megan, and two boys, Noah and Harrison.
