Nate returned in 2024 for his second stint at Oceana.

As Director of Institutional Giving, Nate leads fundraising for Oceana’s new initiative focused on improving outcomes on nutrition and livelihoods in coastal communities in Ghana, Senegal, Malaysia and the Philippines. He also oversees the new Andy Sharpless Ocean Innovation Fund, support fundraising for existing plastic pollution campaigns and campaigns in Belize, and supports the Chief of Staff in managing distinct projects affiliated with Oceana’s leading funders and internal operations and management.

From 2017 – 2022, he played a critical role in fundraising efforts for Oceana’s campaigns to limit plastic pollution, strengthen fisheries transparency, and protect Belize’s marine resources as a member of the Institutional Giving team. In the dark period in between Oceana employment, Nate was Development Officer at Earthjustice, where he helped resource their work to fight oil and gas leasing and advance a clean, equitable energy transition. He also managed initiatives to improve the workplace experience for all Earthjustice staff and strengthen growth and development pathways within the Development Department.
