WaPo Blogs Oceana
BY: Emily Fisher
On Thursday I wrote about our latest victory in the seafood contamination campaign — Costco has agreed to post the FDA’s warnings about mercury in seafood. The Washington Post’s consumer blog, The Checkout, wrote about the Costco victory this morning. As the blog points out, the campaign has been quite successful. In 2006, Oceana published a report finding that only about 12% of the major grocery stores nationwide were posting vital information on mercury. Two years later, we have a new report out, Super Markets, which shows a tripling of that figure to 36% of major stores posting the FDA advice. This is great news for consumers — wouldn’t you like to know if you’re about to ingest a neurotoxin?
