About Oceana’s Ocean Council

The Ocean Council is a dynamic and influential group of advocates committed to helping Oceana restore and preserve ocean life. Ocean Council members are front-line Ambassadors for Oceana’s mission and advisors to Oceana’s senior management. Oceana seeks individuals to join the Ocean Council who can play an active role in advancing Oceana’s mission to restore and protect the world’s oceans.

Oceana’s success depends on outreach to the public, and key stakeholders, and their engagement through action, financial support, and the strength of public opinion.  Ocean Council members, assisted by Oceana staff, agree to:

  • Raise funds for Oceana’s program work;
  • Introduce Oceana to new supporters;
  • Educate the public on Oceana’s campaigns to restore and protect the oceans;
  • Remain informed of ocean related issues and support Oceana’s campaigns; and
  • Provide Oceana senior staff with ideas and advice about programs and campaigns.

The Ocean Council is international in scope. Membership is by invitation only. Renewal is annual and initial membership fees are due upon joining. Three levels of annual membership are available:
