Be a Blue Summiteer
BY: Emily Fisher
Need an early spring break getaway? You may not actually get to enjoy the beach, but you’ll certainly learn a lot about the sea if you join us at the Blue Vision Summit here in Washington, DC, from March 7 – 10. Oceana is co-sponsoring the event, which will gather ocean experts to confront the most pressing marine issues and highlight solutions for President Obama and Congress. Oceana’s chief scientist, Mike Hirshfield, will moderate a panel about climate change and the ocean, and he’ll be joined at the summit by US Representative Sam Farr, Dr. Sylvia Earle, Philippe Cousteau, author Bill McKibben, and rower Roz Savage, among others. The event will be held at the Carnegie Institution for Science, Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, and George Washington University.Check out the agenda and plan your trip this week — the early bird ticket prices end this Friday, Feb. 7. You can see Mike Hirshfield’s panel on climate change at George Washington University on Sunday morning from 10:30 to 12 p.m.Okay, so it won’t be a tropical spring break vacay, but come join us anyway. And in case you haven’t heard, Washington’s “suddenly hip again”…
