Happy World Penguin Day!
BY: Sarah Williamson
Though penguins are known for their impeccable black tie fashion, they come in a variety of shapes, sizes, styles, and personalities. From the little penguin in Australia to Antarctica’s emperor penguin, we celebrate each of them today. Even the jackass gets a little recognition on World Penguin Day.
Have you ever wondered what type of penguin YOU would be? Are you shy, skinny, or super tall? Do you have a temper, a taste for love, or a tough side? Take this quiz to find your penguin personality.
All year round, we at Oceana take action to make sure penguins continue to have a home and reliable supply of food by working to protect their prey. Lots of penguins like to eat krill, a small, shrimp-like prey species. Even though krill are tiny and don’t always get much attention, ocean wildlife—including penguins, salmon, and baleen whales—eat between 130 and 300 million metric tons of the miniscule creatures each year!
You can adopt a penguin in honor of World Penguin Day to support Oceana’s continued efforts on behalf of penguins and other ocean creatures.
