Oceana Delivers More than 12,500 Kids’Letters to White House for Sea Turtle Protection
BY: Emily Smith
Last week, on World Sea Turtle Day, we delivered over 12,500 letters from kids across the country to the White House. The letters urge President Obama and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker to save threatened and endangered sea turtles in U.S. waters by requiring the use of Turtle Excluder Devices in all shrimp trawls. The sentiments expressed in the letters ranged from environmental concerns to career aspirations involving sea turtles, such as aquatic veterinarians and wildlife photographers. Six regional children joined Oceana, One More Generation co-founders Olivia and Carter Ries, and Nickelodeon’s Lilimar for the activities. Here’s a short video about the day. Enjoy!
