This week in ocean news,…Oceana shark campaign spokesperson January Jones appears in the May issue of InStyle under the “Stars Who Give Back” section….In another win for BBC video, a huge ocean wave in Micronesia has been filmed from beneath the surface, revealing features underwater spiralling vortices never before captured on camera. Cowabunga.…Sarah at WaterNotes wrote a sad post about the the dangers of monofilament fishing line to marine mammals like manatees. …Everybody’s talking about new revelations (and awesome photos!) about the mysterious basking shark. …The first effort to clean up the the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, Project Kaisei, will depart in June from San Francisco on a two-month expedition. The goals? Study and document the mass of plastic, test catch methods for removing the plastic particles, understand the needs required for a large-scale clean-up, and test technology for conversion into diesel fuel.
