Last week, scientists from the Zoological Society of London have launched the EDGE of Existence program which “aims to conserve the world’s most Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered (EDGE) species by implementing the research and conservation actions needed to secure their future.”
With the goal of giving the necessary conservation attention to each of the Top 100 EDGE Mammals within the next five years, the program hopes to utilize the power of the internet to garner public support.
Perusing through their Top 100, I came across several creatures which hail from the underwater world:
#53 Dugong (aka “sea cows”)
#78 Vaquita (a type of porpoise)
#88 Blue Whale
#89 Fin Whale
