We Hate to Say We Told You So…
In 2009, not long after Obama’s inauguration, we created the ad you see here to encourage our new leader and administration to prevent expanded offshore drilling and turn our country’s energy policy around.
Here we are a year later, and the image now seems chillingly prescient, given the oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico for more than a month now.
Like millions around the country, we had very high hopes that the Obama administration would finally begin to curb climate change and invest in clean energy solutions. The president’s announcement earlier this year to open new areas to offshore oil and gas exploration put a serious dent in those hopes.
This week we released several new ads in DC’s Metro trains. The message is essentially the same, but this time one of the visuals is not an illustration of the potential disaster, but a photograph of the actual disaster that took place April 20th.
This week a CBS poll was the first to show a plurality opposed to offshore drilling. While the poll is by no means definitive, as the OpenLeft blog noted, “The days of pro-drilling forces holding the edge in public opinion are drawing to a close.”
Join the call to end offshore drilling. Help us reach 500,000 signatures on our petition to stop the drill.
