Dr. Daniel Pauly Presents to the WTO
On Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, Oceana board member and fisheries expert Dr. Daniel Pauly gave a presentation to the delegates of the World Trade Organization entitled “5 Easy Pieces: The Impact of Fisheries on Marine Ecosystems.”
Dr. Pauly is a Professor at the University of British Columbia Fisheries Centre and Principal Investigator of the Sea Around Us Project, which is devoted to studying the impact of fisheries on the world’s marine ecosystems.
He has been called the “grand master of fisheries science.” Pauly has written and edited more than 500 books, scientific papers, and reports on fisheries management and ecosystem modeling.
The concepts, methods, and software he developed alone and in collaboration with others are in use throughout the world, including the Ecopath modeling approach and software and the online encyclopedia of fishes, “FishBase”.
